Hyundai Planning to Rival Porsche and Lamborghini!

Hyundai has confirmed at this week’s 2018 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that its N performance division will be moving ahead with developing a supercar able to rival the biggest sports models on the planet, it has been reported by several sources including Australian magazine Wheels.

According to Luc Donckerwolke, who left Lamborghini to become vice president of design at Hyundai/Genesis, the group has made a firm decision to produce a sports car inspired by Hyundai’s N Vision Gran Turismo concept. The company’s vice president of research and design, Woong-chul Yang, added that the planned vehicle is “something our brand needs at this time.”

The project is still only in its early design phase, so it will be a few years before anything concrete is available for public display. The general plan, though, is to create a two-seat car with a hybrid powertrain system, likely one that more resembles the system powering the Acura NSX than the F1-type found in the Mercedes-Benz Project ONE. Word is that the main benchmarks for the development team will be the Porsche 911 Turbo S and the Lamborghini Huracán.

So how does a Hyundai supercar strike you? Is the challenge too daunting for the South Korean automaker? From where we sit, the project is a highly intriguing one and we’re firm believers in its chances for success.
