  • Hyundai is sparing no effort with its IONIQ. Last year it debuted the Hybrid version and the Electric version, and more recently in 2018 it has introduced the third variant, a plug-in hybrid – the Electric Plus. In doing so the carmaker is able to meet the requirements of a larger portion of the pro-electric crowd. While the Hybrid is the most affordable of the three, the Electric is the most expensive. What’s more, the latter’s maximum 200-km range makes it a limited option, not practical for those who regularly do longer distances. Enter the Electric Plus, in many ways ...

  • The looks Genesis has actually given its big sedan a substantial visual makeover, applying what it calls the theme of Horizontal Architecture to incorporate new exterior and interior design changes to the big sedan. The luxury brand’s so-called Athletic Elegance visual language gets an update, for example via the larger diamond-shaped front grille flanked by four-point headlights. The hood gets two new centre creases, and the license plate is placed as low as possible, further accentuating the low and wide stance of the G90, which also features an elongated, horizontal side profile.

  • The new model is actually really new, as it sits on a new, distinct platform. Hyundai adds a new player to what was already a pretty full roster of SUVs, especially given that the manufacturer was already producing two variants of its Santa Fe model, one of them able to accommodate seven occupants. The new Palisade takes that one step further, and can welcome eight! In any event, Hyundai has confirmed that it will be removing the XL version of the Santa Fe from its product offering.

  • Since its release last year, the Hyundai IONIQ Electric has for all its qualities been found lacking in one particular area: battery range. With its battery system delivering a single-charge range of 200 km, it struggles to meet the definition of what a long-range electric vehicle should be

And while it’s not getting the major makeover that its fellow Hyundai SUV the Santa Fe is this year, it is benefiting from a number of upgrades.

  • Koreans in the spotlight! For the first time in three years, Kia does not rank at the very top in the initial-quality study results. It has been knocked off its perch by… another Korean brand. This year, cars with the Genesis nameplate generated the smallest number of reported problems. Not that Kia has anything to be ashamed of: the mass-market manufacturer placed second behind the new luxury brand.

Reworked from end to end, it also offers lots of space, options and modern features. Android Auto/Apple CarPlay compatibility and Hyundai’s new BlueLink telematics system add another ...

  • Hyundai recently launched two marketing campaigns for mobile devices and television in order to promote its latest sedan models. First, the all-new 2017 IONIQ appears on sponsored Tinder profiles—a first for the popular dating app. The idea is to remind Canadians that they shouldn't settle in picking a car or partner, and they might just find the 'whole package' in the one they least expect. "The IONIQ offers an engaging driving experience, has an incredibly advanced powertrain, and is an incremental addition to our product lineup which presented us with an opportunity to do something new from a marketing perspective," ...

We understand only a brief lapse in judgment and inattention can have terrible consequences,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, product, corporate and digital planning, Hyundai Motor America. So how does the system work? It monitors the rear seats of the vehicle using an ultrasonic sensor that can detect ...

  • We are today light-years removed from those first vehicles imported into North America by Korean automaker Hyundai. The Pony racked up strong sales in this market in the 1980s, but owed much of its success to its highly competitive price point that others could not match. Hyundai’s vehicles have improved greatly over the years, first catching up to most other makes in terms of quality and technical advances, then staking a claim to the higher end of the market with vehicles that are both distinguished and sophisticated. Even better, the automaker has entered the luxury car market segment with its ...

  • I’ve driven many hybrids and plug-in hybrids over the last few years, but recently, I asked myself a very specific question: why a plug-in? The only answer that comes to mind is fear. Fear of two things, actually. The first is range. Most EVs simply will not meet the range requirements of those who enjoy longer drives.  The second reason, and I might be going out on a limb here, is that a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is more than a regular hybrid that people have been driving for well over 15 years. What I mean to say is ...

  • There is a possibility that Hyundai will launch a new subcompact SUV for the U.S. market in the medium term. This model would directly rival the likes of the Chevrolet Trax, Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, and Mazda CX-3, which are all part of a growing segment.  The Korean manufacturer has yet to confirm any of this information, however.  Hyundai Motor America president and CEO Dave Zuchowski told Edmunds that the vehicle would be based on the Veloster platform, although he rejected the idea of importing the Creta (sold in India and other countries) because it lacks flair and is too conservatively styled ...

  • Pros: The stylish 2016 Hyundai Santa Fe XL stands out from the regular, short-wheelbase Santa Fe Sport with a 60/40-split third-row seat that boosts seating capacity to seven while increasing versatility. Equipped with a powerful V6, it offers spirited acceleration and tows up to 5,000 lbs.  Cons: The V6's fuel economy is somewhat disappointing. One could say the same thing about cargo room behind the third-row seat. Steering lacks feedback, while the big sideview mirrors affect forward visibility.  Price and Fuel Economy: The base FWD model costs $30,449. Every other trim benefits from AWD, including the Premium at $35,399. Next up is the ...

And while the Hyundai “Vision G” Coupe Concept makes a serious statement with its large size ...

  • The 2015 J.D Power Initial Quality Study is out, and while three of the top five makes are prestigious names (Porsche, Jaguar, Infiniti), Kia and Hyundai managed to grab the other two spots, landing in second and fourth place, respectively. Porsche leads the way with just 80 PP100, followed by Kia (86), Jaguar (93), Hyundai (95), and Infiniti (97). The industry average is 112 PP100, an improvement from 2014 (116).  For the first time in the history of the ...

  • Pros: The Hyundai Elantra offers lots of creature comforts and a fun drive for not a lot of coin.  Cons: The GT was launched over three years ago and is starting to look a bit long in the tooth beside its competition despite its sporty, modern exterior.  2016 Hyundai Elantra Price and Fuel Economy: With a host of trims and two transmissions to choose from, there are no less than seven Elantra GT models to choose from.  2016 Hyundai Elantra GT L Manual $18,449  2016 Hyundai Elantra GT GL Manual $19,749 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT GL Auto $20,999 2016 Hyundai ...

Next ...

  • Katherine Sirois, a 17-year-old student at Durocher College in Saint-Lambert, Quebec, has created a unique hat for drivers that can detect signs of drowsiness behind the wheel, the Journal de Montréal reports. How exactly does it work? An EEG unit is built in the hat and connected to a micro-computer the size of a credit card to monitor the brain's electrical activity. When it detects alpha waves, which are a sign of imminent sleep, the system sends an auditory signal in a fraction of a second to awaken the driver and refocus their attention to the road, potentially saving their ...

  • True to his simple lifestyle, Pope Francis is now driving around in a new Popemobile, namely a topless Hyundai Santa Fe with no clear protective barrier so His Holiness can remain accessible. The barrier was installed on previous Mercedes-Benz-based Popemobiles after the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II, who was shot in 1981.  According to The Motor Report, the Hyundai Santa Fe convertible features a 2.2L CRDi turbo-diesel engine producing around 194 horsepower. Le Blog Auto adds that bodyguard platforms, grab bars, executive-style rear seats, and folding running boards are also part of the mix.  This doesn't mean Hyundai ...

  • PROs: With its Coupé, Hatchback and Sedan, the 2015 Hyundai Elantra covers a wide-ranging spectrum…to suit all tastes. And like all the automaker’s other models, it is dependably reliable, offering good value for money. The Elantra has reasonable fuel consumption rates and offers excellent standard features with the emphasis on comfort and roominess. CONs: The 2015 Elantra’s suspension is perhaps a little too stiff. Furthermore, steering could be more precise and responsive – and maybe the type of tire fitted should be changed too. And last but not least, it should be noted that the 1.8 L engine lacks power ...

  • Sometimes it’s hard to care about all the financial and political mumbo-jumbo that goes on in our big, crazy world. Why? Because it rarely affects us directly in a tangible way we can actually grasp and see firsthand. Well, Hyundai is making sure we reap the benefits of a recent free-trade agreement between Canada and South Korea.  How are they doing it? Well, Hyundai Auto Canada Corp. are reducing their prices (as of January 15th, 2015) by up to $1,300. That’s money in your pocket. A direct result of what used to be a 6.1% federal import duty fee that ...

  • Every driver knows how maddening it is to enter a car on a cold winter morning only to see frost all over the inside of the windshield and windows. How did that happen? More importantly, is there a way to prevent it? The answer is yes. In really cold temperatures, the heating system works to warm up your car, but at the same time there's humidity coming from your breath and the melting snow under your boots. Later, when you get out of the vehicle, said humidity will stick to the windows and form a thin but frustrating layer of ...

  • The brand new Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) will be the very first automobile of its kind made available in Canada, and this just two short years after Hyundai became the first automaker to mass-produce fuel cell vehicles.  How does it work? Well, in very simple terms it’s an electromechanical process that combines oxygen and hydrogen in a fuel-cell that creates electricity to power an onboard electric motor. This all happens sans combustion and sans moving parts. With only water vapour as emissions, this is as green as it gets.  Without delving two deeply into the mechanical bits ...

  • Hyundai recently posted a promotional video that's gone viral mainly because it stars the EXOBABY. It's been watched over 14 million times since December 18th.  This cute baby in an Exoskeleton suit benefits from the same advanced safety systems as Hyundai vehicles, and he uses them in some pretty cool ways. The list includes forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, parking assist, smart trunk, turbo engine, and more.

  • Today at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Hyundai brought a collection of new technologies, highlighting advanced infotainment features and driver assistance systems.  One of them is a production-ready augmented reality Head Up Display (HUD) concept. This system presents even more driver information in the form of animations, which describe road conditions ahead. On the augmented reality HUD, drivers will see warnings when a car is about to unexpectedly enter their lane, arrows leading to exit ramps, highlighted street signs, Smart Cruise Control distance bars and one-way street markings.  This is paired with a wearable band that ...

  • Hyundai has announced that the Tucson Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) will be available to Canadians on a 3-year lease at $599 a month beginning in early 2015. It may just be for the Vancouver area, but it's a start.  This will make Hyundai the first automotive company to make hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles available in the country -- two years after becoming the first-ever automaker to mass-produce fuel cell vehicles.  The lease includes maintenance and unlimited hydrogen refuelling. In addition, Tucson FCEV owners will enjoy an “At Your Service” valet program similar to the Equus full-size luxury sedan's. ...

  • Pros: The 2015 Hyundai Veloster is a fun little coupe with one-of-a-kind looks, dynamic handling, and plenty of bang for your buck. It's also a practical one with a convenient liftgate in the rear and an extra door on the passenger side. Cons: Of course, some people don't like the polarizing exterior. Rear visibility and rear-seat room are not a strong suit of the Veloster, either. Also, the relative lack of power and a slow throttle response are issues, especially for takeoffs.  2015 Hyundai Veloster Price: Pricing for the Veloster starts at $18,299, then increases to $19,849 in SE trim, ...

  • My week with the Hyundai Elantra was plagued with the need to drive five other compact sedans we’d lined up to compete with it. And to tell the truth, I was miffed every time I had to hand back the keys to my Elantra. I’d come to really enjoy living with it. It just clicked for me, and there are many reasons why that’s so. Sure, it might be a bit long in the tooth now, despite the recent refresh, but the 2014 Hyundai Elantra is still great to look at and quite pleasant to drive. With a competitive price ...

  • Okanagan Valley, BC -- Sometimes, a second attempt at a first impression is necessary. When I drove the first-generation Genesis a few years ago, I was duly impressed by its luxurious design and feel. Now, amongst the stunning backdrop of Kelowna and Vernon in beautiful British Columbia, I was introduced to the 2015 Hyundai Genesis, and it felt like the first time all over again -- only better. Hyundai is ushering in a new era of vehicles with the 2015 Hyundai Sonata and with seven new models to introduce through 2016. That’s kind of a big deal, and all on ...

  • Hyundai has officially launched its Tucson The Walking Dead special edition in the U.S. Featuring an Ash Black exterior with body side graphics and unique badges, it comes with four decals -- Hilltop, Kingdom, Saviors, and Survivors -- allowing buyers to display their allegiance to certain factions from the hit TV show.   Photo: Hyundai Inside, you'll find black leather seats, special floor mats, and a 7" touchscreen display with a special The Walking Dead splash screen. Even better, there's a "Zombie Survival Kit" that includes everything from zip ties to mint toothpaste. This Tucson is motivated by a 2.4L ...

  • Hyundai finally introduced its much anticipated Intrado concept at the 2014 Geneva Auto Show.   Photo: Hyundai As the first concept created under the direction of former Audi design guru Peter Schreyer, and the first to embody the new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language, the Intrado aims to demonstrate Hyundai’s leadership in fuel cell technology while hinting at a new compact crossover.   Photo: Hyundai The Hyundai Intrado is equipped with a 36kW lithium-ion battery. Its lightweight construction and efficient powertrain result in improved driving dynamics, engineers claim. Few performance figures were provided, except for a range of about 600 ...

  • Pros: Known for its bang-for-your-buck status, the Elantra maintains that motto despite seeing engine upgrades on some versions and a few exterior tweaks for 2014. Cons: Despite offering a modern and sleek exterior look, some may find the design of the Hyundai Elantra sedan to be dated already.
